Reflexive verbs
Verbs with -se: levantarse, ducharse, llamarse — and where to put me, te, se
Verbos reflexivos
How it works
A reflexive verb has -se at the end of the infinitive: levantarse (to get up), ducharse (to shower), llamarse (to be called). The action is done to oneself.
When conjugated, se changes with the person — me, te, se, nos, os, se — and goes before the verb.
How it works
Pronoun + verb
me + levanto
The pronoun matches the person of the verb: yo me levanto, tú te levantas. Never “levanto se”.
Se is 3rd person
él se · ellos se · usted se
Se is only for él, ella, usted, ellos, ellas, ustedes. “I” takes me, “we” takes nos: nos levantamos, not “se levantamos”.
